Bodyology Chat room

As we run weekend courses, sessions span several weeks. Keeping in touch in between is crucial, so we developed an easy-to-use chat room where tutors answer your questions and post their own to open discussions to all students.

The example below demonstrates how to use the Chatroom (taken from a real session)

Tutor: Good evening to all. Continuing from our last session on the topic “what makes a good therapist”? Any comments from students?

Caroline:  When I started studying massage I thought it would be enough to just give the massage treatment, but now I can see that I need to consider so many other things.

Joanne:  for me it makes sense that communication with your clients can make you a better therapist. It’s not only what you do, but also how you do it and how you communicate it to your client.

Ian:  I still have a problem understanding how to promote health while giving a massage.

Tutor: can someone try to explain this to Ian?

Joanne:  It’s in everything. It’s not enough just to give the massage treatment. You need to show your client that you are aiming to improve their health by listening, giving advice, teaching them about posture. You have to work on the psychological and spiritual level.

Kathy: Yes, you know those clients walking with their rounded shoulders. Some of them have low self-esteem. I practiced on one woman like that and we did a lot of work on posture and self-esteem.

Tutor: Interesting. What did you do?

Kathy: She said she doesn’t like her posture. I asked her to exaggerate her posture and asked her how she feels in this position. She said that she feels like hiding behind her shoulders. I asked her to think about how her posture would be if she was more confident. She did it and then we swapped between the postures. Then I gave her the massage. She felt much better after the treatment. She was surprised that I am only 2 months into my training.....
